33rd National Eye Donation Fortnight, 2018 Observed at NEI

To increase awareness about significance of Eye Donation, the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) organized the 33rd National Eye Donation Fortnight between 25th August and 8th September, 2018.

With the blessings and inspiration of Mahant Baba Ram Singh Ji Maharaj and Sant Baba Jodh Singh Ji Maharaj (Secretary), of Nirmal Ashram, Rishikesh and with the guidance of Shri Atam Parkash Kochhar (Babuji), under the aegis of the aforementioned Programme, Nirmal Ashram Eye Institute (NEI), Nepali Farm, Rishikesh, organized Eye Donation Awareness Presentations, using audio-visual tools, at Nirmal Ashram Deepmala Public School, Shyampur, Rishikesh, Rita Inter College, Garhi Maychak, Rishikesh and Uttaranchal Dental and Medical Research Centre, Mazri Grant, Doiwala. The main purpose of these events was to sensitize and motivate young students and staff to ignite, among the masses, a firm resolve to pledge their eyes for donation.

NEI also distributed more than 15,000 pamphlets of eye donation awareness literature through newspapers in Rishikesh, Doiwala, Raiwala, Haridwar / Kankhal, Bijnor and Khatauli

NEI organized a felicitation programme on Saturday, 08 September, 2018 at 11:00 AM, to express gratitude towards the families of people who donated their eyes in the last year, thereby, enabling the blind with sight. Through this function, NEI intended to extend its appreciation to these families’ contribution to the service of humankind. A total of 40 families of eye donors were felicitated by Sant Baba Jodh Singh Ji Maharaj, the Chief Guest, Dr. Ashi Khurana, from C L Gupta Eye Institute, Moradabad and Guest of Honour, Mahant Gurvinder Singh Ji from Moradabad. Also, approximately 40 eye donation awareness volunteers were also honoured at the programme.

Owing to its sustained efforts to further the cause of eye donation awareness, it is worthwhile to mention here that in the recent past, NEI has received eye donation calls, from outside Rishikesh, from Dehradun and Haridwar in Uttarakhand, Bijnor, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh and Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh.
